I'm curious what you guys have to say on this topic.
What do you find is the best role suited for the Necron Lord, based on personal experience or otherwise?
Objective Grabbing: a Necron Lord with Veil of Darkness and 20 Warriors
Armor Hunting: A Necron Lord with a Destroyer Body and Warscythe flying around with either Scarabs or Wraiths
And the third option of selling him and the rest of my Necrons for a better army is not on the table...
Can this question be answered in a vacuum or does it really matter what the rest of the army is? |

I would field him with VoD & RO. It's best to join him with a squad of Immortals.

Agreed GBF. but wouldn't be nice to do both? especially if you are runnin
a mostly warrior list with some immortals.
Unless you have plans on using the deceiver at some point?
If so,i would take the armor hunter. _________________ "only the insane are strong enough to prosper, and those that prosper, can truly judge what is sane." |

I have never been a big fan of the star gods... They are very expensive and the best Necron lists I have seen dont use them. You can take both VOD and ROB on one Necron Lord. The best lists I have seen have some destroyers... Destroyers are kind of broken as they can move 12" and shoot all those S6 shots, they are better than Immortals for sure but it's good to run both units. Immortals are the best choice for teleporting with a Lord as it helps keep them in range plus they can soak up a fair amount of shooting.

Just thought I'd post a follow-up to this thread.
After BFSR, I can say that a Lord with Veil, Gaze of Flame, Chronometron, and a Warscythe hopping around with 20 warriors is pretty awesome. I only played games against Space Marines, 2 Space Wolves and 2 regular, but I had the mobility, offensive power, and survivability to do what I wanted.
Using the mentioned setup, the Nightbringer, 8 Destroyers, a Monolith, a couple of Heavy Destroyers, and another 10 Warriors allowed me to destroy large chunks of the lists I faced...I just couldn't claim enough battle points to crack the top 10 ...but man did I kill a lot |

Excellent job! Necron's are a tight army to run - congrats on doing well with them! _________________

The Necrons are a tight army to run, and it sounds like you figured out the best way to use them. I fought a guy in Chicago who would jump out of HtH and then blister me with fire. If that failed, the monolith would teleport them out of it as well. Sadly, I didn't have the ability to kill the monlith unless I got really lucky.
He had alot of figs on the board to keep me from getting him down to 25% phase out. I am interested in what changes they will invoke when the Codex is rewritten. I hope to see acouple of new units on the board.
It would really flesh out them out, like they did with the Tau.
Time will tell. _________________ Sometimes, I get tired of all of the killing, but I get over it, reaaaalllly FAST!
