“My lord, the hive city of Rominus has been raised to ground. It appears there are no survivors”, Hogan said. The war council took the news with a quiet anger. Many brave Imperial Guardsmen had died defending the Hive City.
Argus ShadowWolf rose from his seat at the table. With a wave of his hand the holomap faded from view. “Then we shall meet our foe as he travels to the site Magnor has divined.” All eyes turned to Magnor Thunderwalker, an ancient Rune Priest second only to Njal. “Both of the small ruins I have located are infused with the stuff of the immaterium. If they perform the ritual I forsaw, Rominus is lost. They will open a permanent gate that will allow countless daemons into the world.”
“Lord ShadowWolf”, Hogan interjected,” we took these pics while surveying the area for our dropsite. I have not seen him since Armageddon, but he is here. An’ggath stalks this world and he is moving towards our objective. Your instincts were right.” Argus’ face turned as hard as the rockface of the Fang. “Nay, Hogan, twas not instinct. As this grand saga was being planned I was taken to Lord Grimnars private chambers where I met with him and a Inquisitor Lord of the Ordo Maellous . The fabled Grey Knights are too far away to reach Rominus. It falls to us to challenge this filthy creature and send him back to the hell that spawned him.”
Argus turned to his right. “Well Arjac, it looks like I have found the fight worthy of Lord Grimnars champion. I will second my Wolf Guard to you. This you must do. We will lend what fire support we can. But An’ggrath must fall. I will lead the rest of our forces and keep these foul demons from the ruins.”
Arjac nodded his ascent and rose from his chair. “I go to prepare my armor. I will slay the beast or die in the attempt.” And with that Arjac left the room.
“Argus are place is beside you, not with the Rockfist.” You can fell this monster just as well as he. As Hogan spoke the other members of the Wolf Guard nodded their assent. It did not sit well to follow another when their Lord had taken the field. All were fiercely loyal to the ShadowWolf. While Arjac was a Space Wolf and the Champion of Logan Grimnar, the ShadowWolves were fiercely independent, even for Space Wolves. More than once had Argus and Lord Grimnar come to blows over important matters and decisions.
“I know your thoughts and I say lay them aside. For once I agree with Grimnar. We have two goals: Keep the daemon host off the ritual points in the ruins and slay An’ggrath. Arjac Rockfist is the best chance we have against the creature. When the sun sets on Fenris Logan Grimnar is still our leader. His will in this must be obeyed.”
Three days later…
“ShadowWolves! Spread out between the ruins and hold position.” Argus calmly relayed over the comm. “Lord, the warp boils with anger, the daemons come…” Magnor transmitted. His touch to the immaterium the only warning the ShadowWolves received. Off in the distance the skies turned red and lightning began to strike. No natural storm was this. “Sons of Russ, fire at first contact. We must thin them out as much as possible. “ No sooner had the order been given that bolter and missile fire could be heard in the distance
“LORD! LORD SHADOWWOLF! Near Askel and his Hunters, the creature comes”. Briefly all eyes turned to behold creature known as An’ggrath the Unbound. Its roar shook the very ground. Old Bromir and his Long Fangs wasted not a second and fired on the behemoth. Missile Launchers and Lascannons pounded the monster. It seemed not to care at all about the barrage.
Argus ShadowWolf looked at the host materializing around him. Without an order his Wolves designated to slay the beast were already moving to position. He looked to see where he was most needed. Plotting his course Argus test fired his jump pack ready to carry him to the fight. Many heroes would be made this day.
“FOR RUSS AND THE ALLFATHER, LET NONE STAND BEFORE US. THEY ARE WATCHING MY SHADOWWOLVES, LET US NOT DISAPPOINT!!!” _________________ Even in the grim darkness of the far future, there can still be heroes... |
